Georgia's extreme-heat shutoff protection does not cover every electric customer

PSC rules prevent Georgia Power from disconnecting residential service for nonpayment when a qualifying National Weather Service heat advisory or excessive heat warning applies before 8 a.m. on the scheduled shutoff date. The PSC says the rule does not govern electric membership corporations or municipal utilities.
